Responsibility
As an international company with nearly 80,000 employees, E.ON is aware of its special Corporate Responsibility (CR). There are plenty of examples of E.ON's commitment to people and the environment, such as the support of the children of socially disadvantaged families, the call of environmental tenders, and the implementation of environmentally friendly designs. In addition, Corporate Responsibility is one of the five central corporate values expressed in our mission statement.
Responsibility for the environment
As an energy supplier with one of the largest set of power plants worldwide, E.ON assumes a special responsibility for the environment and the conservation of natural resources. We carry out this task by preventive environmental protection and investments into climate protection as well as into energy efficiency. E.ON has, for example, reduced its specific carbon dioxide emissions (emissions per kilowatt-hour of electricity generated) by more than 30 % since 1990. In addition, E.ON is planning to invest EUR 1.2 bln - some of it in Hungary - in the extension of hydroelectric power, wind power, and biomass capacities by the year 2009.
Responsibility for the regions
A healthy environment is the basis for healthy business. This is why we take measures to increase the attractiveness and the sustainability of the regions where we live and work. We support especially children and young people, and we also promote our colleagues' commitment to their communities. The parent company of E.ON Erőművek, E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH, has been engaged in an open dialogue with its neighbors for years. The company offers interested visitors free-of-charge visits to its power plants, while information centers, often set up as early as in the phases of design and construction, supply additional data for this dialogue. In addition, power plants regularly organize open days and cultural events.
Energy for children
The support of children and young people is the most important investment in the future. It is, therefore, a key element of our regional engagement. E.ON Kraftwerke adopts its means specifically in this field and focuses on long-term and sustainable projects for the sake of children and young people. Such projects range from early childhood development through sports to energy and environmental education. The engagement is decentralized; in other words, it is split up among the various regions and power plant sites. The focus of attention is long-term partnership with kindergartens and elementary schools. Our primary objectives include the optimization of support offers, the promotion of reading skills, as well as the prevention of aggressive and addictive behavior.
Our mission statement: Beyond business success, E.ON Kraftwerke's business conduct also takes into account the interests of its employees, society, and the environment.
