The gas-turbine runs on fossil fuels, mainly natural gas. This is shaft-mounted to the electricity generator - This means: while the turbine is running, electricity is being generated.

The heat energy of the very hot combustion gases will also be recovered and reused by a steam-turbine: the combustion gases will be ducted through a gas utilisation boiler, where it will heat water to produce steam. The steam in turn drives a steam-turbine, which also generates electricity via a generator.
